The Municipality of Clarington is responsible for maintaining, improving and overseeing construction on all municipal roads and road-related public infrastructure (roads, bridges, storm sewers, storm water management ponds, street lighting, roadway cycling facilities, sidewalks, and parking lots) within our jurisdiction.
We provide comprehensive snow clearing and ice control operations during the winter months as well as street cleaning, pothole repair and crack sealing of asphalt roadways during the summer months. We also manage improvements to existing roadways and related public infrastructure. We perform regular assessments on the condition of the roads and infrastructure to determine where your tax money is best spent, and where we need to make improvements.
We plan for the various maintenance and improvement projects in our annual Municipal budget.
Clarington is responsible for all public municipal roads within its boundaries. The Region of Durham is responsible for Regional roads and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is responsible for Highway 401 and Highway 35/115.
Construction of the Highway 407 East Project has begun and will continue until 2020 when Highway 407 will open to traffic at Highway 35/115 in Clarington and the two connecting highways from Highway 407 to Highway 401 are completed.
